Ren's Hulk Smash party!

When my son, Ren, turned 4, he was certain he had to have a Hulk themed birthday party. He is crazy about the Hulk. It turned out to be such a fun party to plan. I had a lot of help from my sister, Jaime, who designed his invite and all the printables for the party. It all started with this photo I took of Ren making his best Hulk face.
Jaime turned it into this awesome birthday invite.
The sign on the front door.
We had minimal decorations up. My nieces helped with the balloons on the banister while I frantically put last minute food items on the table.
I think my favorite thing out of the whole party: an "Eat. Smash. Repeat." sign my sister designed for the food table.
I loved how the green/purple/black theme came together.
The punch was lime sherbet, lime slices, and Sprite. It was pretty tasty.
We played a version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey - Paint the Green on Hulk with green finger paint.
The birthday boy being spun by his dad.
My oldest son, Cohen. He loves birthday parties!
I bought cheap black fabric from Walmart and felt to make superhero capes for all the kids. It took a while, but the kids loved them. Well worth the time.
A Mighty Muscles station. I took all the kids' pictures lifting up this super heavy (not really - it was Styrofoam balls) dumbbell.
Another station where the kids used their super vision to find gold coins in the sand.
 Leaping over tall buildings...
Kryptonite throw - ping pong balls into hula hoops.
Lava walk... red plastic table cloths under beams of wood we bought at Home Depot.
Ren loathes cake... he's not even a fan of rice krispy treats, but we had to do something. So, green rice krispies it was.
Nothin' better than getting Hulk presents at your Hulk par-tay!
The party favors - 1 inch black and green gumballs (had to buy them online), in plastic tubes (bought them off etsy).

You can tell Avery had a rough day... she didn't nap, had mismatched clothes on, and interesting hair goin' on. Poor kiddo. It's rough when Mommy's throwing big brother a party.

Avery was happy to be the clean up crew the next morning. She felt much better after a good night's sleep.
Happy birthday, Ren! We love you!!

Friendship themed Relief Society Dinner.

I spent a lot of time planning for our big Relief Society dinner/Visiting Teaching Conference. After tossing around a lot of ideas, I finally settled on the theme of friendship. I saw this Mary Engelbreit illustration and quote that I loved, and it became the basis for the whole night. I had so much help from Jaime, my sis. She designed these awesome invitations and helped me so much as I planned the décor . Another sweet friend, Katie, helped me with the food.. we decided to have it catered by Kneaders. We had to go eat there to really look at everything and decide.. ;) We even tried some desserts just to be sure.. it was fun, fun!! I bought this adorable polka dot teapot there that I just knew I wanted to use. Another dear friend, Sarah, who is crazy talented by the way, went with me to Hobby Lobby and The Dollar Store with me for frames, vases, and other décor.. we found these adorable artificial fruits that ended up being perfect for the theme. I'd printed out ...

Party 101.

I remember when my oldest son was 4 years old, and I wanted to plan a birthday party for him. I was overwhelmed with how to go about planning a birthday party for little kids. I wasn't sure where to start. All I knew was that he really wanted a Thomas the Train theme. Cohen, at his Thomas party. Up until then, we had always done birthday parties with family only, and they were simply eating a meal (often at a restaurant), opening presents, and having cake. This would be our first friend birthday party, where we'd have to plan activities and food for all the kids. I so wanted to have a party that was memorable for my son and his friends.  I emailed a friend of mine and asked her for advice. She gave me some great tips that I've used in all my parties since. My twin sister, Jaime, also has been a great source to turn to. She throws a mean party and is crazy creative. O ver the years, I've also learned a lot of things from trial and error, lots of ...

Father's Day Gift Ideas.

Father's Day is coming up!  We love our Jason, and we like to surprise him with special gifts.  I wanted to share a few things my kids and I have loved doing for Jason. These Pinhole Press board books are so adorable and easy to do. The kids love looking at them, and Jase cried when he first saw them. They made his day! Making a slideshow for your special guy is also a great idea! We made one for Jason a few years ago, and it was so special and fun. There are many different sites you can use to do that. One that I've used recently is Smile box . It does cost money to use, so be aware of that. You can also use free sites or simply make one using google slides or iMovie. Etsy has some great gifts for Dads.  Look at this awesome tee set for a Dad and child. So cute! I love this modern watch/jewelry stand . So manly and clean looking. This docking station is equally awesome. For the Dad who enjoys cooking, you could get him one of these personalized cutting boards . Love ...
