At our church, the 8-11 year old girls have meet biweekly for activities. Then, in the summer, they have a day camp. I didn't plan or carry out any of this, so I can't take any credit. But I went to help out, as my daughter was in the group of girls who participated. It was so cute, I had to take some pictures and share. The theme for the camp was "We can do it!", and they used Rosie the Riveter for inspiration.
They put up this cute sign in the gym for the girls to take pictures with.
The girls each got a bag with a cute red and white polka dot headband and red lipstick, which they were so excited about. Then they were put into small groups and went to a number of different classes in different rooms.
This was their "Friendship Snack", where each girl brought in a fave snack and then dumped it all in one bowl. The girls loved it.
The girls learned to make dutch oven pies. They were delicious.
They got to make these adorable heart string boards.
A nurse in our congregation taught them CPR and basic first aid and had them put together little first aid kits.
In between their classes, they got to sit and talk and eat their snack in the "hang out room". Their leaders brought in bean bag chairs and patio type lounging chairs and blankets on the floor. It felt so cozy. The girls had so much fun together.
Each girl colored a "This Is Me" picture with their goals and talents depicted on it.
They also sewed pot holder purses, which my daughter loved!
It was such a fun day, and to top it all off, the girls were taught a little dance to the song, "This Is Me", and then they performed it for their parents at the end of the day.
There were many tears, including my own. It was so precious watching these girls dance their hearts out. They each are so special.
